INSPIRATION
In Ceremony, patterns can be maps, cages, rhythms as well as signs and symbols. Just as politics, culture and identity can affect
how we relate to various colors or shapes. This series asks us a lot of questions. Life is change and a pristine point in-between
contradictions when one view point shifts to the other. These pieces are hints, like the patterned inner lining of a suit jacket, they
ask questions and reveal answers about the person who wears the jacket, thus sending the viewer on a quest for understanding
and an attempt to create meaning.
Work technical description
Paper machè, although a humble set of materials, can last for centuries. Simultaneously in a world of sufferable materials where
decomposition is slow, paper machè can return to dust with relative ease. The strength of this material is akin to the warp and weft
of textiles. Its personality that of an architectural sketch. It morphs into something new without any assistance.
This material though simple and straightforward is poetic. Nearly perfect yet constantly glorifying its imperfections, reminding the maker that it too has a voice in its creation.
